RABBIT CONTROL TAIHAPE, Feb. 22 (O.C.)—The Taihape branch of Federated Farmers is to endeavour to arrange a meeting between a delegation from Federated Farmers representing members who are not in Rabbit Board areas, and the Rabbit Destruction Council, which arrives in Taihape on March 22 for discussions with the local Rabbit Boards. WINTER FARM SCHOOLS. Mr. A. R. Dingwall, Instructor in Agriculture, Wanganui, advised the Taihape branch of Federated Farmers at its meeting last Friday that it was proposed to hold sessions of the Winter Farm Schools in Taihape on March 28 and 29. It was decided that full support should be given to the scheme. Among the lecturers whose services are made available at these school farm sessions are such authorities as Dr Cunningham, superintendent of the Wallaceville Research Laboratory; Dr. C. P. McMeekan, superintendent, Ruakura Animal Research Station; Dr. Bruce Levy, Director, Grasslands Division; Mr. A. Lithgow, Officer in Charge, Seed Testing Station, Palmerston North. In addition to the sessions on purely farming subjects, separate sessions are also arranged to cater for the interests of the Women's Organisations and Gardening Clubs. MANGAWEKA’S CRICKET LEAD INCREASED. Defeating Taihape A on the first innings in the final series of the second round of the Taihape Cricket Association’s championship at the weekend, Mangaweka increased their lead in the competition. Taihape B continued their winning run by disposing of Colts. Highlight of the day’s play was the fast century scored by Boyd for Mangaweka, while a number of other batsmen in this game also secured runs. The other game was marked by lowing scoring, where bowlers called the tune, Reid registering a good performance in securing five Taihape B wickets for 20 runs. Scores in the games were:— Mangaweka 288, Taihape A 133. Taihape B 124 and 82 for three declared, Colts 74 and 84 for 3‘. Competition points are now: Mangaweka 34, Taihape A 28, Taihape B 22, Colts 17, Utiku 8. SCHOOL SWIMMING SPORTS. Tangaroa House gained most points, 59, in the annual swimming sports of the Taihapp District High School recently. Other houses fared as follows: Arataki 48, Ikatere 45, and Kiatoa 22. The Borough Council is to discuss with the Traffic Inspector (Mr. W. C. Shaw) the setting up of a taxi-stand, and will at a sitting the Transport Licensing Authority next week, put a case for the granting of an additional taxi licence for Taihape. The Authority will have before him an application for a taxi licence and an adjourned application for an amendment to an existing licence.
