Wanganui Radio 2XA Will Be Operated By Remote Control

Good progress is being maintained with th e erection of the 140-foot radio mast m the motor park at the rear of the Drill Hall for Wanganui’s radio station 2XA- About 100 feet of the mast are now in place, the work being carried out by members of the staff of the State Hydro-Electric Depart merit. When the Wanganui radio station Is in operation it will be operated by push-button control, the equipment for which operates in a similar manner to the automatic telephone system. By rotating an automatic dial in the control room at the station the required reaction is obtained from the transmitter which will be located at the Drill Hall. The system of remote control eases staffing difficulties and enables the transmitting equipment to be located away from the control room. The first station to be equipped with this remote control equipment, which was designed by the staff of the New Zealand Broadcasting Service, is the station recently opened in Timaru. In that case the transmitter is several miles away from the studio.
