Waikato Wasps in Taihape A nest of wasps of a species which infest the Waikato area was found in Taihape on Monday. Surprise was expressed at th e spread of these wasps so far south. The nest was removed from a bank in Mataroa Road and destroyed by a stock inspector of the Department of Agriculture.—(OC).
Band At Cook’s Gardens. The Wanganui Garrison Band was in attendance at Cook’s Gardens last night to assist with musical honours for the visiting Australian athletes, M. Curotta, G. Goodacre, G. Avery, D. White, and Mr. R. •Graham (manager), who were accorded a civic reception by the Mayor (Hon. W. J, Rogers, M.L.C.).
Wanganui Archer. M. Armour, a member of the Wanganui Archery Club, is competing with distinction at the New Zealand Archery Championships which are now being held at Auckland. In the men’s championship he occupies second place with 2362 points. The present leader is W. J. Burton (Gisborne), world champion in 1946 and 1947, with a total of 2525 points.
Higher Subscriptions Endorsed. “That this branch endorses the action of the Wanganui Provincial Executive in increasing subscriptions,” was the text of a remit submitted by the Makirikiri branch at yesterday’s meeting of the Wanganui Provincial Executive of Federated Farmers. “This is only a pat on the back from the branch,” said Mr. L. Horrocks, in moving the remit.
