Okawa, Hawke s Bay, by Mrs M. G. Lowry. She is a hall-sister to Western Front, a sound stayer whose five winning performances Deluded the New Zealand St. Leger, and also to Perfect Peace, whitfh won a race at Avondale and gained nine placings, including a second in the New Zealand St Leger and a third in the Great Northern Oaks- All Quiet, dam of Happy Medium, was by the Son-in-Law horse Siegfried from Speechless, which, as a two-yearo-ld won three races and was placed several times on New Zealand courses. Speechless gained further success as a brood mare by leaving Brunhild to Siegfried. Brunhild, a good staying mare, won six races, including the New Zealand Oaks.
Highland Kilt Paraded The two-year-old trotting fullbrother to the champion pacer, Highland Fling, Highland Kilt, who recently created a new mile record of 2.19 1-5 at Addington, was paraded at Epsom last Saturday. A fine type of youngster, Highland Kilt will attempt to lower his record on th e second day of th e Auckland Trotting Club’s February meeting on Saturday.
Was Not Disgraced Hunting Rua, in finishing third, was not disgraced in th e running of the Storey Memorial at Te Rapa. A winner at his last three starts, al Tauranga. Matamata and Rotorua, the Hunting Grey gelding was taken to th e lead as the field raced into the back stretch, and though headed by several runners at the home turn he fought on for a good third—clear of th e balance of the field. Hunting Rua has stood up to a solid programme of racing, his record this term being three wins, a second and two thirds for stake money amounting to £lB3O and a gold cup, which he won at the jubilee fixture of the Rotorua Racing Club.
Trainer Breaks Leg Hector Gray, a former leading jockey and now a successful trainer at Takanini, received a broken leg while riding back from schooling at Takanini on Saturday morning. Gray, who is 62 rears of a'-e, was riding
Mignonette toward his stables and was overtaking Finest Hour when, without warning. Finest Hour flung her hind feet in the air catching Gray a hard blow just abov e the ankle. After taking off his boot, Gray found that his right, leg was fractun.He put on his boot, remounted am le home.
