TWO GUESTS AT OLD BOYS’ FAREWELL

HEADMASTER ON LONG LEAVE, AND H. B. CAVE Members of the Wanganui branch of the Collegiate School Old Boys’ Association gathered in large numbers last night in Dustin’s rooms to say au-revoir to Mr. F. W. Gilligan, who is going on a long-delayed holiday to England, Mr. H. B. Cave, an old boy of the school, who has been selected in the New Zealand cricket team to tour England this coming English summer. Both will be travelling on the Dominion Monarch, due to leave Wellington on Saturday. Dr. I. K. Wilson presided. The gathering that night wished him an enjoyable holiday and looked forward to his return to carry on the guidance of the school, which had made such noted progress under his jurisdiction. In referring to Harry Cave, Dr. Wilson said his selection in the New Zealand team had given great satisfaction, and old boys wished him every success on the cricket fields of England. The school activities were well organised and covered a wide range. Both in the school room and on the playing fields the school was acquitting itself with credit, he said. In a recent list of awards by the Victoria University Council for senior scholarships, of the six names published, three were of old boys of the school —R. B. Cooke, D. A. Farquhar, and W. S. Shires Mr. Gilligan said Farquhar would go into residence at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, this coming October. Mr. Gilligan said it was his intention to return to New, Zealand about November next. The Rew H. W. Austin will be acting headmaster in Mr. Gilligan’s absence. Harry Cave thanked the gathering for its send-off and acknowledged the coaching he had received from Mr. Gilligan. The gathering was Inter addressed by Mr. A. S. Wilder, president of the Old Boys Association, and Mr. B. M. Silk (secretary). Mr. Wilder wished both Messrs.
