£8750 IN STAKES FOR MANAWATU MEETING

The Manawatu Racing Club’s autumn meeting will be held at Awapuni on March 26 and April 2, and the Club is giving £8750 in stake money for the two-days racing. However, one of the second day feature races is the Awapuni Gold Cup, a weight-for-age race over a mile and a quarter. The prize for this race is £lOOO including a gold cup valued at £lOO and the Club has made it a condition that the stake will be reduced by half if the race is run in times more than live second slower than the time taken to run the TamateU Handicap on the same day unless, in the opinion of the stewards, circumstances warrant a waver of this con' dition.

The big handicaps on the first day will be the King George Handicap and the J. M. Johnston Memorial Handicap over a mile and a quarter and six furlongs respectively, and the stake money for the King George Handicap will be £lOOO and that for the Johnston Memorial £6OO.

There are four feature races tor the second day. The Tamatete Handicap and Gold Cup are two of them and the others are the Manawatu Sires' Produce States, for two-year-olds over seven furlongs, and the Longburn Handicap.
