ON THE TURF

WAIKATO AND RANGITIKEI MAIN NORTH ISLAND MEETINGS TODAY Chief events in the racing world in the North Island today will be the Rangitikei Racing Club’s meeting at Bulls and the Waikato Club’s meeting at Te Rapa. Both meetings have engaged strong fields with candidates of calibre, and good racing should be the order of the day. The rain throughout the island during the week is expected to be reflected in an improvement in the tracks. ,At Rangitikei the main event of the day, the Rangitikei Handits?, has drawn a strong field and one which is so well balanced that bettors will be faced with a difficult problem. In fact, there is a good likelihood of any horse in the event turning on a surprise. The Storey Memorial Handicap at Te Rapa has drawn a strongfield and here again competition will be keen. With excellent acceptances, provision has had to be made for divisions in a number of events. Other meetings will be held at Gore, Wairoa and Westland. In the light harness section, chief interest will centre in the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting at Epsom. The chief attrae-' tion will be the clash of Attack, with four firsts in his last four starts, and Captain Sandy, three firsts and a fourth, in the Otahuhu Handicap, the big event of the day. The other trotting meeting is at New Brighton. •
