Mr. J. R. Hanan Will Not Contest 1949 Election

INVERCARGILL. Yesterday (PA). —For family and business reasons Mr . Ralph Hanan, Nationalist member for Invercargill, has decided not to contest the seat at the next general election. In a statement Mr Hanan said he had advised the executive of

the Invercargill branch of the party that he would not seek re-election but would continue to devote his full time to all his political duties until the end of the present Parliament. Mr Hanan is a partner in a legal firm in the city and was returned as member for Invercargill in the 1946 election, unseating the Labour member, Mr W. M. G. Denham. Appreciative references to the services rendered to Ngw Zealand and to Southland in particular by Mr J. R. Hanan, National member for Invercargill, were made today by the Leader of th e Opposition (Mr Holland) in Wellington.
