Wanganui W.D Thanked Gor Food Parcels
“Joyously received and most welcome’’ was the text of a number of letters received by the Wanganui branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers in acknowledgment of Christmas parcels sent to England by the branch. Some of the letters were read to members at the first meeting for the year by the president, Mrs I'. Smith, and a voluntary collection taken to contribute a monthly parcel to needy cases realised more than 30s.
It was explained by th e treasurer, Mrs A. Duncan, that she had obtained the addresses of six deserving people through a welfare officer in London, and it was to these individuals that the parcels had been sent Arrangements were finalised for the W.D.F.F. shop day, to be held on March 11. and the supportof members was also invited for a garden party at th e division rest home, “Kaianga Moe,” at Palmerston North, on March 5, which is to be attended by the Dominion president, Mrs J. R. Haldane. Reporting on a meeting of the Town and Country Residential Nursery executive, Mrs Smith said that any donations of fruit would be accepted gratefully. Books, magazines and small pots of jam were also requested by the hospiteal visiting convener. Mrs A. McPhail. A letter of thanks which accompanied a copy of the official magazine of farming interests in South Australia was read by the secretary, Miss M. E, Pratt. Following an account, of a trip to this State made with a party of New Zealand farmers and their wives by Mrs Carson, of Brunswick, the branch had sent a copy of the W-D.F.F. magazine, “The countrywoman,’’ as a friendly gesture to the women’s organisation there, and the letter was received in acknowledgment.
