Two Important Wanganui Bowling Events; R.S.A. And Match With Taranaki
Two important bowling events take place next Saturday. The annual Returned Services New Zealand tournament Wanganui elimination matches will be played on the Wanganui Returned Services’ Club’s green. A team of Wanganui Centre representative bowlers will play Taranaki at New Plymouth.
The R.S.A. tournament was inaugurated last year on the basis now adopted. Each bowling centre in the Dominion conducts its own one-day tournament and finds a winning four. Each winning four then goes to the Dominion tournament to represent the centre in the N.Z.R.S.A. final. This year the Dominion tournament is to be played at Christchurch. Last year it was played at Wellington. Wanganui representatives last year were: G. H. White, J. R. Cade, L. C. Young and G. V. Cooke. The same fou r has been entered for this year's Wanganui tournament, with the exception of Cooke, who is one of the Wanganui representatives to play against Taranaki. (J. Goldstone will skip in Cooke’s place. This tournament must not be confused with the Wanganui, R.S.A.’s own annual tourney, which, as usual, will take place in March. The representative match with Taranaki also originated last year. Several Wanganui bowlers have made a practice of attending the Taranaki tournament each year, and a suggestion was made last year that it would be a good idea for the two centres to play each other by selecting their strongest teams, the meeting place to ajternate between Taranaki and Wanganui. Last year Taranaki came to Wanganui and won. This year Wanganui is to send its team to Taranaki.
