Two Swimming Records Lowered By Fifteen-Year-Old Girl

NAPIER, Last Night (P.A.)— The outstanding performance at the national junior swimming championships tonight was that of 15-year-old Miss W. Griffin (Auckland) in winning the girls’ 220yds. freestyle. Miss 'Griffin broke both the senior and junior national records and is regarded as a strong Empire Games candidate. Winning easily in 2min. 39 l-ssec., Miss Griffin lowered the senior record by 4-ssec., and beat the junior record of 4l 4-ssec. established by herself earlier in the day. In a special attempt on the boys’ 220yds. breaststroke record of 3min. 6 2-ssec., held by himself. T. Eagle (Auckland) was successful, covering the distance in 3min. ssec. Eagle was disqualified in his heat. A. M. Amos (Auckland) dominated the boys' freestyle and backstroke classes, winning each of the three events decided.
