Woman Journalist Criticises The New Zealand Trains
On a flying assignment, a round-the-world air trip financed by the 14 newspapers of the syndicate for which she writes, Mrs. Paul Stemann (formerly Miss Gwen Robyns, of Wellington) arrived by the flying-boat from Sydney and is now visiting her mother in Wellington. Mrs. Stemann is travelling by allEmpire air routes, and her articles are to be written from the angle of post-war Empire progress. London dress designers co-operated in planning the perfect modern wardrobe for air travel.
Since leaving England on December 29 Mrs. Stemann said she had had only eight hours sleep, not through any travel discomfort, but because she had been writing whille other passengers were sleeping. After a night on the Limited, she said she found New Zealand trains “disgusting” and the service “fantastic” compared with Continental and English rail services.
