Hawke Cup Elimination Match Opens In Marton This Morning The Taranaki cricket team which is to play a three-day Hawke Cup elimination match against Rangitikei this week - end, arrived in Marton last night. The visitors are staying at the White Hart Hotel. Manager of the team is Mr. L. Des Forges and the captain is Stan Betts, a wellknown representative player and former member of the Wellington Minor Association’s Country team. The game commences on the cricket ground at Marton at 10.30 a.m. this morning (not 11 a.m. as stated yesterday) and will conclude on Monday. Both the wicket and outfield appear to be in first-class order and all that is wanted for a successful fixture is fine weather. A charge of Is is being made for admission each day. The Smith Shield will also be at stake in this match, the present holders being Rangitikei. If Rangitikei emerges victorious in this game, it has been allotted the third challenge this season for the Hawke Cup, at (present held by Hutt Valley. If Taranaki is successful they will have the right to challenge Hutt. The south members of the Rangitikei team held a practice late yesterday afternoon on the cricket ground. The captain of the eleven, J. H. M shall (Taihape) was also in attendance. The teams for the match are as follow: — Taranaki: S- Betts (captain), N. Au I ridge, C. Hurcombe, N. Leighton. D. Cannon, R. T. Launder, H. McClenaghan, I. Bennie, A. Alexander. Gray, R. Davie and E. Meuli (12th man). L. Miller, P. Scott and R. Heale were not available. Rangitikei: - J. H. Marshall (captain), S. Finney, N. Ashenden, E. Monk, M. Marshall, R. McChesney, R Hood, A. B. Marshall, T. Stent, A. Bowick, A. Bell. J. Carroll (12th man). The umpires will be Messrs Fl Gregg (anganui) and W. Sanders Marton). The official scorer for Rangitikei is Mr. D. Timmins.
