Substantial Rise In Prices For Lambs At Wanganui Sale Lambs showed a substantial rise for the opening Wanganui sale of the year, held yesterday report the auctioneers, Messrs. Freeman R. Jackson and Co. Ltd. The demand for lambs was particularly keen, some consignments showing a rise of more than 7s a head on last year’s open sale. The general average rise was just over 4s a head. The auctioneers reported godd yardings in all sections and a large attendance of buyers, Uiere being a total clearance under the hammer. The cattle sale was also keen, with bullocks selling at up to and over £l7. Pigs were fully firm on the closing sale last year. Taken generally, the Wanganui sale yesterday was the best opening sale for several years. Values were:—
Sheep: Light fat 2th. wethers, 38s* fat lambs, 355; medium to small 2th. wethers, 32s 2d; woolly b.f. lambs, 29s 3d to 30s Id; good medium, 25s to 27s 4d; tail-end and late lambs, 18s 8d to 21s 8d culls, 15s 7d to 17s 6d; shorn medium, 19s 9d to 235; woolly wether lambs (seedy), to 25s 9d; shorn wether lambs, 26s 6d to 27s 2d; second cut, 20s 2d to 23s lOd; culls, 16s 2d to 18s lOd; medium shorn ewe lambs, 23s 6d to 25s 4d; Southdown rams, £3 12s 6d Cattle: Fat heifers to £l2; fat cross bred cows, £9 to £10; boners, £4 to £5 12s 6d; three and four-y’ear P.A. bullocks, £l6 2s to £l7 2s; crossbred bullocks, £l5 15s; crossbred run cows, £8 15s to £lO 2s; yearling P.A. heifers, £5 15s to £7.
Pigs: Porkers, £4 16s to £4 18s; weaners, 37s to 455. Vealers: Good calves. £2 7s 6d to £3 IQs>; small, 355; vealers, £4 5s to £4 15s.
