New British Army Depot In Kenya

LONDON, Nov. 29 (Rec. 7.10 pm).—A vast new British overseas Army depot has been opened at Mackinnon Road, 70 miles from Mombasa, Kenya, says the military correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph.” The first of its two main purposes is to take, by September, 1949, 182,000 tons of the Royal Engineers’ stores, representing three years’ national output.

These stores are being evacuated from base ordnance depots at Rafah, Tel-el-Kebir, and other storage sites outside the Suez Canal zone The second purpose is to provide an East African installation readily convertible into a base depot in the event of war.
