Wanganui ripe Band Has Many Engagements
Tomorrow, November 30, is St. Andrew’s Day, an anniversary which was celebrated as a Bank Holiday until such occasions were omitted from the business calendar. As St. Andrew is the natron saint of Scotland the occasion will be marked by a function under the auspices of the Wanganui Highland Pipe Band, which will entertain honorary members and friends at the Savage Club Hall.
The Pipe Band has had a busy time and still has several engagements to fulfil before the end of December. Already members have paraded at live garden parties, including one last Saturday, and there will be another at Durie Hill next Saturday. In addition to tomorrow night’s function at the
Savage Club Hall there will be Band Sunday next week-end, when it is expected that there wj.ll be eight or nine pipe bands at Cook’s Gardens. Visiting bands include Manawatu Scottish, Marton, Hunterville, Patea, and Hawera, and probably Ruahine and Feilding. These, with the two Wan-
ganui bands will provide a spectacular massed display of bands. A municipal concert scheduled for next Sunday at Virginia Lake will with the approval of the City Council, be postponed until a date to be arranged.
On Sunday, December 12, the band will participate in the Bands Sunday to be held at Marton, the junior band also taking pari. Other places recently visited bv the band are Raetihi, Ohakune, Hunterville, and Nukumaru and the junior band also assisted at< the fireworks display at Castlecliff last week.
