The Ladies’ Choir; Seventh Concert Given

(By H.C.J.) The seventh concert staged by the Wanganui Ladies’ Choir revealed that the high level attained at the previous concert had been sustained. The control, modulation and quality of singing was of a high order and prompts the belief that more than songs could be essayed at the next performance. The policy of presenting a varied programme was adhered to and the introduction O'f an elocutionist (Olive Sperring) into the programme is an innovation which merits further exploration. Mr. George Sutherland, the visiting soloist, has a pleasant bass voice, but while it would no doubt be delightful in a drawing-room it is inadequate for performance at a choir recital. Incidentally, the mispronouncing of the word “blow” as “blue” is an affectation which, went out of fashion with elastic-side boots for ladies. .
