Price Of Sugar To Fall By A Farthing A Pound

PARLIAMENT BLDGS. Last Night (PA).—The retail price of sugar will be reduced by id a lb. from December 12, and the subsidy on refined sugar for household consumption, now £4 7s 5d a ton, will be abolished. This was stated by the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr. Nordmeyer) tonight. The retail prices for golden syrup and treacle will be reduced by Id a two lb. tin. and 3d a seven lb. tin, from the same date. The wholesale prices for'sugar, golden syrup, and treacle will be reduced as from November 26. ‘This will give retailers a period of 14 days before retail prices are reduced in which to sell stocks purchased before the reduction in the wholesale price.” said the Minister. “Refunds will be made to wholesalers to cover the reduction in value of sugar stocks held or afloat at the date of the wholesale price change. ‘Wholesalers should make individual applications for refunds to the Food and Rationing Controller. Wellington,” said the Minister, adding that the list price of sugar to manufacturers would also be reduced hv £6 14s 2d a ton from November 26.
