Truman Directly Takes A Hand In Palestine Issue

LONDON, Oct. 30 (Recd. 6pm).— Newspapers reported from Paris today that American support of the Anglo-Chinese resolution at the United Nations designed to impose sanctions on Israel, was withdrawn on the direct orders of President Truman.

Earlier the President’s Press secretary (Mr. Charles Ross) denied reports that President Truman ordered the American delegation to delay decision on the resolution until after the Presidential election, although he declined to comment on a report that President Truman had ordered Mr. Marshall not to support the AngloChinese resolution. Meanwhile, in an informal discussion of world affairs with a small group of Jewish war veterans today. Mr. Truman declared: “I make the American foreign policy.”

The veterans han asked for implementation of the Palestine partition plan of November, 1947. President Truman replied: ‘‘Palestine is only one issue, just as Korea and other places are issues. You cannot just take Palestine alone. The platform of American foreign policy str nds and I make American foreign policy. You don’t have faith enough in your President!”
