Wanganui Bowling Club’s Labour Day Tourney; Competition Entries Only a small number of members turned up for the tournament to be played on the Wanganui Bowling Club’s greens on Labour Day. Play had to be abandoned at the end of the third round, because of heavy rain. Despite heavy overnight and early morning rain the prospects of a fine day appeared to be quite good. The greens were in excellent order, although somewhat heavy. The strong westerly wind prevailing, however, iproved most troublesome to even Ihe most experienced players. Twelve rinks of three players aside were played, composed of the following members: Grant, Hammond and Walker; Powell, Greener and Bracks; Gatward, J. A. Thomson and Harris; F. Johnston. Pidgeon and J. L. Lowe; W. R. G. Thomson. Lange and White; Mepham, Cook and Tomsett; Ryall, McDonald and Young; Bates, Alex. Thompson and Tremain; Digby-Rob-erts. Doig and Glengarry; Skelsey, Haworth and Cooke; R. N. Wilson, Hoar and Bretherton; Horn, Ward and Boulton. The first round resulted as follows: Bracks 13. beat Walker 5; J. L. Lowe 24. beat Harris 3; Tomsett 13. beat White 6; Young 11, beat Tremain 9; Glengarry 15. beat Cooke 13; Boulton 11. beat Bretherton 9. Second Round: Tremain 13, beat Glengarry 10; Cooke 17, beat Bretherton 14; Walker 13, beat Boulton 5; Bracks 24, beat Harris 2; Tomsett 10, beat Lowe 9; Young 10. beat White 9. Heavy rain set in during the afternoon when the fourth round was being played, and the match committee thereupon decided to abandon further play. CLUB COMPETITIONS. Members are reminded that the entry date for closing the club competitions—the junior, intermediate and senior singles and pairs, has been extended until next Saturday. The Club Full Rinks competition for the Moult Shield will commence on Saturday next. Every active member is elegible to play in the latter competition, and there is no necessity for any special entry to be made.
