Queensland Communist Charged With Sedition Under Crimes Act
BRISBANE. Oct. 12 (Rec. 9 pm) —Gilbert Burns, a member of the executive of the Queensland Communist Party, pleaded not guilty today to a charge of sedition preferred against him under the Crimes Act. The charge was proceeded with as one for hearing under summary jurisdiction. It is alleged that at a public meeting on September 15. Burns said: “If Australia was involved in a third world war, that war would be between Soviet Russia and American and British imperialism It would be a counter-revolutionary war. We Communists would oppose that war and would fight on the side of the Soviet Union. Counsel for accused nas indicated that he will not call evidence.
