SKYMASTER FORCED DOWN ON PACIFIC ISLAND

Recd. 7 p.m. Canberra, Aug. 22. A Skymaster aircraft of British Commonwealth Pacific Airways, which left Sydney on Wednesday lor San Francisco and Vancouver, developed engine trouble and landed at Palmyra Island, north-west of Fanning Island. The plane, which had a full complement of passengers, was flying from Canton Island to Honolulu, when an engine fault developed, so a decision was made to land on a United States nave,! airstrip. Another plane take the passengers on and two engineers and a spare engine will be flown from Sydnew to Palmyra tomorrow night.
