"Axis Sally” Charged With Treason

Recd. 6 p.m. Washington, Aug. 21. Mildred Elizabeth Giffars, aged 37, spinster, who while broadcasting from a Nazi radio in wartime was known to American troops as “Axis Sally, ’ was charged today with treason.

Gil’ars, who is American-born, arrived from Frankfurt under guard. She will face a grand jury along with the Californian-born Iva Toguri, who the United Slates Government alleges was one of six women who broadcast over the Japanese radio as “Tokio Rose.”
