Man Drowned When He Fell From Yacht

(P.A.) Auckland, Aug. 22. A man was drowned when he fell from the yacht La Paloma in a rough sea off St. Mary’s Bay in the Auckland harbour this afternoon. He was: Bernhard Ross McCoy, aged 27, or Mount Street, City.

With five persons on board, the yacht was coming about in a heavy sea preparatory to picking up her moorings when the accident occurred. Mr. Darvel McCoy. deceased’s brother, stated that deceased was working the jib sheet when a wave struck the boat, causing it to lurch so that deceased lost his footing on the slippery deck and wont overboard.

The yacht was brought round, and a tope thrown to McCoy. This proved unsuccessful.
