Dates Fixed For February Carnival In City Next Year
The Wanganui February Carnival for 1949 will open with the West Coast Cycling Championships on Saturday, February 19. and will conclude with the final day of the New Zealand Cycling Championships on Saturday, March 5. This was decided on by the Wanganui City Council when adopting a recommendation of tlie Tourist, Publicity and Development Committee at the monthly meeting last night.
The chairman of the committee (Cr. W. S. N. Rennie) and the town clerk (Mr. C. R. White) have been deputed to communicate with the Wanganui Aero Club regarding a pageant or some similar gathering to oe held at a convenient date during the carnival period. The “High Jinks” portion of the carnival will be help from February 21 to 26. A recommendation has also been made that a fireworks displa.x be one of the features of the “Hign Jinks.” The council of Amateur Sport is to be asked to appoint three representatives to each ol’ the following subcommittees, ] of the Tourist, Publicity and Development Committee members being:— Finance: Cr. Izard (chairman) and Messrs. England, Lattey and Russell. Public Entertainment: Cr. Wilson (chairman), and Crs. Andrews and McFarland and Mr. B. R. Dobbs. Advertising: Cr. Price (chairman), and Messrs. Hall, Sievwright ana Young. Gates and Grounds: Cr. jack (chairman) and Messrs. Dowseit, vV. J. Gilbert and Rhimes.
