(P.A.> Wellington, Aug. 3. A wage rate of 4s an hour, an increase of 5d o n the existing ligure, was claimed bv the New Zealand Carpenters and Joiners Union in proceedings in Conciliation Council for a new New Zealand (except Otago and South’and) carpenters' and joiners’ award. A counter offer by the employers contained a proposal for an increase in the wage rate to 3s 101 d, conditional on substantial changes in clauses governing suburban work and nenal rates. This proposition was not acceptable Io the union representatives, and the dispute will now be heard by the Court of Arbitration. Several clauses in addition to that governing wages remain in the disnut e.
