DOUG. HARRIS DROPS OUT

J\JEW ZEALAND’S Olympic great hope, Doug. Harris, has met with the misfortune of having strained or torn a tendon. This will, in all probability, put him out of the competitions at the Olympic Games: his great chance has eluded him. How came it that a man in such excellent condition as he must have been should have met with such an experience? It is probably due to the fact that, having been spiked in the heel he was running with a broken gait in order to nurse his hurt. This departure from the customary muscular action threw out the mechanism of the leg. placing an unexpected strain upon the tendon, which gave way. It is regrettable indeed that this splendid athlete should have been the subject of a mishap in the first place, but it is doubly disappointing that he should have been, as a result, eliminated from the Olympic Games. It is improbable that he will be able to compete in his present class a decade hence when the next Games are held.
