SYRIANS WILL REGARD PREMATURE EVACUATION AS BREACH OF TRUCE
(N.Z.P.A.—Copyright.» Recd. 7 p.m. London, June 30 The British G.0.C., Lieut.-General G. H. A. MacMillan in a proclamation issued at Haifa, announced that British forces would cease to occupy any area in Palestine from July 1. The Syrian Premier, Gamil Mardem Bey, said that Syria had protested to Britain against the evacuation of British troops from the Haifa area before the scheduled date He added that Syria would regard the premature evacuation as a breach of the Palestine truce. The Associated Press Cairo correspondent says that a reliable Arab source stated that Palestine peace proposals which Count Bernadotte submitted to Arab and Jewish leaders “all imply the existence of a Jewish State which the Arabs could never accept.”
