Senior Rugby Champ. Will Probably Be Decided On Saturday

What will probably be the deciding match of the Rangitikei senior Rugby championship will be played at Rata on Saturday, when those two old Rivals—Hunterville and Rata —meet. At present, with five matches to play beioi’e the close of the competition, Hunterville have a lead over Rata ot four points, but if the greens succeed in upsetting the maroons’ sequence of victories, fresh interest wilt be infused into the senior grade. A win for Hunterville, however, will virtually seal the issue for the northern learn. Hunterville and Rata have provided some classic examples of firstclass Rugby in the past and no doubt all roads will lead to Rata on Saturday for this keenly-awaited fixture. In the first round Hunterville won by 10 points to six. Since that match Rata has not been beaten, and reports from Rata indicate an earnest desire to avenge the first-round defeat. Another match of more than average interest will be that between the two local senior teams—Marton Old Boys and Athletic. Over a period of years, there has always been plenty of rivalry displayed by both players and spectators and the clash of these two teams Invariably draws a large crowd. Both teams have experienced a somewhat lean period this season — Old Boys have had two wins and a draw and Athletic two wins—but are evenly matched. In the first round Old Boys left the field winners by six points to three and. are confident of repeating the medicine on Saturday.
