Hon. B. Martin New Speaker Of The Legislative Council
(P.A.) Parliament Bldgs., June 29 The Legislative Council today elected the Hon. B. Martin (Auckland) Speaker in succession to the late Hon. Mark Fagan. In accordance with traditional procedure the election was conducted in secret behind closed doors. Mr. Martin was formerly chairman of committees and a replacement for that position has not yet been selected. The Council will meet tomorrow morning to debate the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade Bill.
