DANGEROUS PRACTICE OF HIDING ON LORRY TRAY. Serious accidents could arise from such types of offence, commented Mr A. Colemanp, S.M., in the Marton Court yesterday morning, when Harold John Card appeared on a charge of driving a motor vehicle dangerously loaded. Defendant, who pleaded guilty, was convicted and lined 10s (costs 12s). Evidence was given by the traffic inspector. Mr. W. C. Shaw, who prosecuted, that defendant was driving a motor lorry near Turakina, and on the tray of the vehicle were a number of Maoris, all with their legs dangling over tne three sides. This type of offence was unusual, but a dangerous one, said Mr Shaw. He was not pressing for a heavy penalty, but had brought it forward in the hope that the publicity given the case would act as a deterrent. The inspector said the offence was committed at about 6.15 p.m. on April 13 and when stopped defendant said he was returning a party of Maori potato nickers to their 'tomes.
