AOTEA, CITY AND ARAMOHO HAVE WINS IN WANGANUI LEAGUE

In the first quarter hour of the Aramolio-Gonviile I-Jugby League Cluo match in Wanganui on Saturday, play was even. Then Aramoho, with some good short passing moves in the forwards, opened play up and, as a result of one of these sorties, Potaka scored. The kick failed, prom the kick off, loose play followed, enabling Bott to pick up the ball and score. The kick missed. From scramblingplay on the Gonville line, Eyers burst through to score. Blackmore converted to make the score Aramoho 13, Gonville 3. A spectacular movement by Aramoho took play from one end of the field to the other for Evans, lite last man to handle, to score. The kick missed. Shortly afterwards Waitai fooled the opposition with a quick kick and scored. His kick missed. Half-time came up with the score 166 in favour of Aramoho.
On the resumption of play, Gonville attacked, but Crawford, playing a sterling defensive game for Aramoho, with Pratt, took play back to the Gonville line for Blackmore to pick up and score. Blackmore converted. Shortly afterwards Blackmore kicked a penalty. Tries by ! Pratt and Upchurch one of which was converted by Blackmore, followed in quick succession. The final whistle blew with the score: Aramoho 34. Gonville 6. The outstanding players for Aramoho were Blackmore. Pratt and Potaka. while for Gonville. Williamson. Waitai and Bott played solid football. AOTEA’S NARROW WIN. Smith to add tour more points to Aotea's total, while Tonkin added two to Eastern Suburbs’ score. Half-time came with the score 7-6 in favour of Aotea.
On the resumption of play both teams endeavoured to open the game up, but the Aotea back line was not operating as well as in previous games and for Eastern Suburbs K. Terry was inclined to kick too much. From a scramble near the Eastern Suburbs line, Wallace picked the ball up and barged over for Barton to convert. A scrum infringement from the kick off enabled Tonkin to kick a penalty. The greater weight of the Aotea pack began to have its effect, and Eastern Suburbs were pinned to their line. From a scrum the ball came to D. Smith, who dropped a goal. From the kick off Eastern Suburbs played with renewed vigour, carrying play into Aotea territory. An infringement by Aotea allowed Tonkin to kick another goal right on full time, the final score being: Aotea .14, Eastern Suburbs 12. On the day, Aotea must be considered lucky to have won. Outstanding for Eastern Suburbs were Tonkin. Stone and H. Terry, while for Aotea D. Smith and Wakarua were hard workers.
At Waitotara. City secured a surprise win over Waitotara by 13 to 8. The try getters for City were Wilcox, Anderson and Walden, and Butler kicked two penalties. For Waitotara. E. Hurlpv and Johnny scored, and Johnny converted one. The outstanding players for City were Walden and Cornforth, and for Waitotara E. Hnrlev and West. In the schoolboy grade. Gonville defeated Eastern Suburbs 18-0. The draw for next week is:— Showgrounds No- 1, at 1.30 p.m.: Fastern Suburbs v. Gonville: 3 n.m., City v. Aotea. No. 2, at 3 p.m.. Waitotara v Aramoho.
