DEIVEY’S NOMINATION THOUGHT LIKELY.

Recd. 5.45 p.m. New York, June 22, Senator Edward Martin (Pennsylvania) today withdrew as a candidate for Presidential nomination at the Republican Philadelphia conference and urged support for Governor Dewey in his place* While Mr. Martin as a "favourite son” candidate had not been considered a likely prospect for nomination, his State carries the second largest block of votes. The 73 vote \ ennsylvania delegation is now spJt on the issue, but it is certain Mr. Dewey will receive a large portion of Pennsylvania’s first ballot votes, and some observers go so far as to say Mr. Martin’s action ensures Mr. Dewey of nomination.
