IRGUN WILL MAKE STERN STAND
| SERIOUS INTERNAL STRIFE Recd. 11.10 p.m. London, June 23. With steel-helmeted Irgun men ! in command of the entire northern seafront of Tel-Aviv, influential Jewish sources today expressed fears that the Irgun Zvai ueumi would make a determined stand against the Israel Government, following the fierce battle of the beaches, says the Associated Press correspondent in TelAviv. Thousands of persons, including headquarters staff of the United Nations truce team in Israel, were evacuated from hotels tonight, when Israel shore guns shelled and set on fire the ammunition laden Irgun arms ship. Altalena, which, soon afterwards blew up with a dozen heavy explosions. Civil strife, begun by Irgun residents, has been plunged into a serious internal crisis, declared i Mr. Moshe Shertok (Israel Foreign Minister), after of the Israel Cabinet. He added that th* Government demanded that the Irgun men surrender their arms unconditionally as a result of attempts yesterday to land arms illegally.
