Backers Lost Money Without Getting Run

Backers of Medieval Gold in the First Arapuni Hack Handicap at the Waipa meeting last Saturday did not get a run for their money through a most unusual occurrence. Medieval Gold was drawn to start in the first division of the race but waited behind with the horses in the second division. The fact was noted before the horses in the second division were started and Medieval Gold was recalled without taking part in either division. The stewards reported that the steward furnishing the jockeys to the starter had given the wrong jockeys, showing Frazer instead of Hunter as the rider of Medieval Gold in the second division. There were a number of last-minute changes of jockeys and that had accounted for the error. In view of the whole circumstances the committee decided to take no action, but pointed out to the officials concerned the necessity of careful checking. It also drew the attention of the starter and jockeys to the importance of seeing that horses started in the divisions in which thej' were drawn.
