Small Profit Shown By Marton A. and P. Assn

Although it was necessary to cancel the Marton show this year owing to the poliomyelitis epidemic and the restrictions imposed on public gatherings, with the resultant loss of revenue, a profit of over £l3 was made by the Marton A. and P. Association. This is disclosed in the report of the president, Mr. E. H. Simpson, to be presented at the annual meeting ot members tomorrow night. In reviewing the past season’s work, the report states that the committee thought it advisable not to hold the show under the prevailing circumstances, but decided to hold the floclt ram classes in conjunction with the Ram Fair. Despite there being no show, these classes were well patronised and the stock exhibited of a high standard.

Th annual ball was held last year in conjunction witli the Young Farmers’ Club. Owing to wet weatner, the event w’as not well supported and alter due consideration tne committee deemed it inadvisable to hold a similar event this year. The committee conducted a drive for new members and the report states that 82 were elected during the year. It was hoped to increase the membership roll still further during the coming year. Relerence is made in the report to the death Of Mr. A. Way, who was secretary of the Association for 27 years and who carried the affairs of the association through good times and bad with the etliciency and capability that marked his etiorts on all local bodies with which he was connected. The association also lost through death Messrs. L. M. Richards (past president 1915), H. W. Smith member ot general committee), J. W. Hawkins, E. W. D. Oliver and E. Schultze (loyal and active members for many years). The report concludes with thanks to the Marlon Jockey Club for their co-operation and the members of the association for their support. MARTONIAN PRESENTED TO THE QUEEN. A former pupil of the Marton District High School, Mr. Eric Sicely, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. M. Sicely, Marton, was presented to the Queen at the qum-centenary celebrations of Queen s College, Cambridge University, on Monday. Mr. Sicely was the only New Zealander of the 22 presented to the Queen from tlie British Commonwealth. Mr. Sicely is at present taking an agricultural course at Cambridge University. RANGITIKEI MOTOR CLUB HAS GOOD CREDIT BALANCE. Described by one member as a phenomenal profit lor one year, the Rangitikei Motor Club, after starting the season with 10s 2d, finished with a credit balance of over £252. This was revealed by tlie secretary, Mr. R. Conder, at the club's annual meeting held on Tuesday night in Marton. The main source of revenue was the New Zealand Grass Track championship meeting held on Marton racecourse in March, the gate taking amounting to £3lO. The net profit from the meeting was £230. Receipts lor tlie year totalled £452 and expenses £2OO. The election of officers res-ulted:— Patron, Mr. K. H. Fowler; president, Mr. W. B. McKenzie; vice-presidents, Messrs. M. Fisher, L. Critchley, N. Kingston; secretary, Mr. R. Conder; assistant secretary, Mr. E. Vaughan; club captain, Mr. N. Kingston; vicecaptains, Messrs. R. Follett and O. Carson; committee, Messrs. N. Fulcher. M.
