Business Community Wants ‘Cards On Table’
(P.A.) Wellington, May 29. In a statement today the United Kingdom Manufacturers and New Zealand Representatives Association said: If the Minister of Finance, Mr. Nash, would put all his cards on the table he may be assured the business community will do the same and cooperate to the fullest. Criticising Mr. Nash's speech, today's statement said: “Mr. Nash’s twice-repeated statement that ‘we have over-imported is fatuous in view of the widespread and grave shortages throughout the whole country. When import control was first imposed this association, anticipating some of the present confusion and chaos, advocated the establishment of an independent advisory committee or tariff board to ensure some equation of stock, the committee or board to be comprised of men who, after years of buying and selling, have the specialised knowledge required to assess the country’s requirements which a lifetime of public service cannot give and was never intended to give.”
