WANGANUI STATE HOUSE ALLOCATION BODY

THREE MEMBERS OF LABOUR PARTY AND TWO CHURCHMEN

Personnel of a committee to allocate State rental houses in Wanganui was announced yesterday. It is as follows:

Hon. W. J. Rogers, M.L.C., Mayor of Wanganui, Mrs. M. G. Batt, the Rev. A C. McLean, M.A., the Rev. Father Kingnan, S.M., and Mr. J. J. Scott. Mrs Batt is a Justice of the Peace, president of the Wanganui Townswomens Guild and a*member of the Technical College Board of Managers. The Rev. McLean is minister at St.

Paul’s Presbyterian Church. Father Kingnan is a member of the Wanganui Catholic clergy, and, when serving as a chaplain in the recent war in Italy, was awarded the Military Cross. Mr. J. J. Scott is a former city councillor and deputy mayor. He is a retired railway servant and union secretary. Mrs. Batt, Mr. Rogers and Mr. Scott are all staunch members of the Labour Party and have given great service to It over a number of years.

The scheme to leave to a committee of local residents the allocation of State rental houses was first put into operation in Palmerston North, and was so successful that the Government adopted it generally.
