Air Ambulance Was Covered By Insurance

(P.A.) Christchurch, May 26. A denial that the Canterbury Aero Club air ambulance which landed on Forbury Park racecourse on April 16 would not, in case of accident, have been covered by insurance, as alleged by Mr. S. R. Meatchem, Controller of Air Navigation, was made today by Mr. H. D. Christie, president of the club.

Mr. Christie said it was regrettable that Mr. Meatchem should make a statement that could be so disturbing to the public when the aircraft was on a mercy flight. The club was very perturbed about the matter as a patient seriously ill was being carried and the landing could be rated as either emergency or precautionary. The club's insurers had advised that such flights were fully covered, irrespective of landing fields. Mr. Meatchem, in a statement published recently, said that because the aircraft, by landing at other than a licensed airfield when carrying passengers, had not complied with the air navigation regulations, any insurance claims by passengers or by the club on the aircraft would have been void.
