BLOMFIELD SCORED WIN ON POINTS FROM LEVY IN LIVELY WRESTLING

Wrestling before a racked house last night, Lofty Blomfleld secured a points decision over Len Levy after each had scored a single fall. Levy scored the opening fall in the fifth round when he dumped Blomfleld four times and secured a fall with a body press. Blomtield equalised in the seventh round, when he applied his octopus ciamp, to which Levy quickly submitted. The crowd appreciated the wrestling, which was fast from the start and had just sufficient questionable tactics to make it interesting.

The following were the amateur preliminaries— B. Anderson (3.8) drew with M. Taylor (4.0). Anderson found his handicap .in weight too much, but wrestled gamely. Anderson amused the crowd with his unconscious showmanship. At the end both boys were greeted with a shower of coins from pennies to sixpences, which they hurriedly collected.

J. Phiilipson (8.0) beat M. Kealley (8.0) by one fall to nil. Keatley appeared'to be heavier than Phiilipson but the latter was faster. Phiilipson scored his fall in the first round. Keatley made a good showing in the next two rounds, but could not secure a fail. I. Townsend (5.4) beat T. McLachlan (5.4) by two falls to nil. Townsend scored his opening fall in the first j'ound. The second round was even, but Townsend scored another fall tn the third round. , E. Roloff (9.10) beat A. Higgs (9.9) on points. Roloff appeared to be heavier than announced. He was the aggressor all the way through and several times in the second round had Higgs in trouble. W. Anderson (10.2) and P. Hopkins (10.0) warmed up the crowd for the big bout. They started off at a fast pace. Anderson scored a fall toward the end of the first round. Anderson came in to the attack in the second round and soon scored the winning fall. Although the bout'was shortlived, it was full of excitement Mr. R. Waldren was the referee of the amateur bouts. PROFESSIONAL BOUT.

There was another exchange of jolts and the referee had to intervene. Levy took Blomfleld to the mat with a finger strangle and had him on the mat at the gong. Blomfield opened the third round with a short arm scissors and rocked Levy about the ring. Levy came out with a standing splits. The referee I went to intervene and got tied up between the two men, much to the i amusement of the crowd. After they were separated Levy secured a headlock following up with a flying tackle land missing his second essay when ■ Blomlield ducked. Blomfield ran [Levy’s head into the corner post [twice but Levy got him in a toehold. I They were in a tangle at the gong 'and had to be separated. . Levy dumped Blomlield four times land was rewarded with a punch in the stomach early in the fourth roundI Half way through the round there was a fierce exchange of jolts to the I jaw.

THE FIRST FALL. An exchange of facial massages marked the opening stages of the fifth round. Levy sent Blomfield through the ropes with a shoulder rush. Blomfield opened the seventh with a headlock but Levy quickly countered with a head scissors. Blomfield wormed his way out only be taken to the mat again and caught in a similar hold. HONOURS EVEN. Levy connected with two flying tackles, but when he went in for a third he ran into Blomfield’s knee and was soon in the octopus clamp, a fall being awarded after three minutes had goneI With the honours even, excitement Iran high. Levy was wary of his leg and kept away from Blomfield for a while. Levy dumped his opponent over the ropes. Blomfield took Levy to the mat for a headlock, from which Levy escaped, to secure a short arm scissors. Blomfield got to his feet and they were separated by the referee. Then ensued an exchange of jolts. Blomlield took Levy to the mat and worked for his clamp but was not fast enough and a tangle of legs ensued. After being separated. Blomfield secured a figure four head scissors and arm stretch. Levy came out with a lying splits. At the gong Blomfield was trying for his clamp. Mr. G. Matson was the referee.
