BRITISH INTEREST IN TREATY WELCOMED
(N.Z.P. A.—Copyright.) Recd 10 p.m. Tokio. May 10 Recent British interest in the opening of a preliminary Japanese peace, conference has given ‘he Javanese | high hopes that the long-delayed Issue of conducting a Japanese peace ; treaty will be settled in the foresee-1 able future. Japanese political observers have interpreted the British interest as a i desire to normalise Japanese inter-1 national relations, thereby preventing Japan from falling exclusively I under the United States sphere of | influence. Britain’s plan on the post-war standard of Japanese economy sub-! mitted to the Far-Eastern Commis-■ sion, is based on the unfounded fear ] that Japanese Industry, unless suffi-1 ciently controlled, would redevelop, into a war machine, observers say.! Reconstruction of Japanese economy , to adequate standards, as advocated, by the United States, has a direct bearing upon peace and security in the Far East, they add.
