No Further Power Restrictions In Auckland This Week
(F.A.) Auckland, May 10 No change is to be made in th» power restrictions in the Auckland Eiectric-Power Board’s area before next Monday. In making this decision the board expressed the hope that the situation would have improved sufficiently by the beginning of next week for the cuts to be eased. However, no promise could: be given. A resolution wa> passed requesting the Government, through the State Hydro-Electric Department, immediately to review the allocation of power to the board. It was also decided to try to arrange a meeting with all members of Parliament in the board’s area and to seek their assistance in getting a larger quota. The board is also to send a stronglyworded letter to the State HydroElectric Department pointing out the grave disabilities under which Auckland consumers, both domestic and industrial, are labouring, and emphasising the absolute need for making extraordinary efforts to obtain thermal generating plant to eliminate once and for all the necessity for restrictions of supply. The letter will also ask that, after the Maraetai, Whakamaru and Waipapa hydro-electric stations are completed, any future stations be located on rivers other than the Waikato so as to obtain the benefit of a diversity in the rainfall.
