Missing Deerstalker Returns To Safety After Night In Open
After spending a night in the open in boisterous weather, Mr. Norrie Walker, National Park storekeeper, who was reported missing on Sunday night, when he separated from his companion during a deer stalking expedition on Mount Ruapehu, returned to the Chateau at 11.30 a.m. yesterday. He suffered no ill effects. With Mr. H. Pawson, also of National Park, Mr. Walker entered the bush near the Haunted Whaie site about two and a halt miles below the Chateau, on Sunday. The stalkers separated later in the morning, and agreed to return to their waiting truck between 3 p m. and 4 p.m. Mr. Pawson returned on time, but his companion failed to keep the appointment. Three search parties were organised by the police, It was reported from the Chateau last night that ail the personnel have now returned.
