Marist And Old Boys Draw
UNSPECTACULAR MATCH. In a game which did not include much that was spectacular, Marist and Wanganui and Old Boys drew on the racecourse, the final score being 9-all. It was only in the last minute of play that R. Eruce, with a penalty kick, enabled his team to divide the points. The teams were: — Wanganui and Old Boys: T. Grillin, P. Bosher, B. Jones, M. Hunter, E. Bligh, G. Brown, E. Withers, A. Hackshaw, R. Fitchett, Baker, R. Jones, R. Knofflock, D. McGregor, N. Anderson. Marist: Schreiber, L. Lamont, R. Bruce, McPhun. H. Takarangi, Corliss, G. Cornford, D. O Reilly, J. Heagney, M. Pettis, D. O'Leary, H. O’Leary, D. Brown, K. Howe, Huwyler. Referee: Mr. Christensen. In the first few minutes of opening E. Bligh put his side in front when he goaled from a penalty. Two goon movements, initiated by Hunter, saw Anderson, the wing, just hurtled into touch. At this stage Marist were constantly defending their fine and had a strenuous time in keeping the attackers c”L Schreiber, the Marist full-back, was getting plenty of work to do and was doing it well. Marist were penalised well out and E. Bligh piloted the ball high between the posts to make the score —Wanganui and Old Boys 6, Marist 0. Better combined play by Marist, in which Howe and Pettis were prominent, saw Old Boys yield ground and an infringement by an Old Boys’ player gave Bruce a chance at goal, which he turned to good account In the second half Bruce goaled from a penalty and Qld Boys led by 9-6. When it looked as if Old Boys were about to register their first win of the season, the red and blacks were penalised and Bruce goaled, to make a drawn game, the final score being: Old Boys 9, Marist 9
