HAGUE CONFERENCE

ALL NATIONALS ELIGIBLE TO ATTEND Recd. 6.10 p.m. The Hague, May 8 The political committee of the Congress of Europe resolved, on the motion of Mr. Duncan Sandys. that the peeople of all European countries, including the nationals of countries behind “the iron curtain," should enjoy complete equalify of status at the congress. The committee passed the resolution without dissent, but the chairman. M. Ramadier (France) ruled that it must go to a plenary session for approval. Mr. Bob Edwards, British delegate, and secretary of the Unity of Socialist States of Europe Committee. caused a storm of protest when he told the Congress Economic Committee that Europe must unite in order to be economically strong enough to oppose the Americans who, he said, were preparing a trade war with Europe. Mr. Edwards said the United States, to escape economic collapse, must not only sell its abundant goods but would have to give them away, bring unemployment and a third world war. “Thank God for that abundance ” shouted another British delegate.
