GRANTS UNDER THE MARSHALL PLAN

BRITAIN TO DEPOSIT THE STERLING EQUIVALENT Recd. 320 p.m. Washington, May 8. Britain promised to deposit X; a special account the sterling equivalent of every dollar received under the Marshall Plan in the form of grants. The promise was recorded in a "letter of intent" delivered by Britain to the Economic Co-operation Administration. The deposits will be available for administratve expenses incurred by the United States in the United Kingdom under the Economic Co-operation Act, or for such other purposes as may be agreed to between the two Governments. The letter followed substantially the same lines as covered in letters of intent from other European nations. Letters have yet to be received from Greece, Portugal, Switzerland, and Turkey before they can benefit under the Marshall Plan.
