U.S. FOOD SHIPMENT FOR BRITAIN

Washington, May 5. The first food shipment to Britain under the European recovery' programme was authorised today by Mr Paul Hoffman, economic co-operation administrator. The supplies—wheat, flour and bacon—will be purchased in Canada with United States funds.

The allotment, which is 33,500,000 dollars, is the largest single allocation to date.
