SANDY'S CORNER
NEW HEADLINES. Among the Rugby expressions of the future will be the ‘three-point pot." THE LEFT DOING RIGHT? Ernie Bevin says that Britain is in Berlin as of right. He could have gone a bit farther and. said that Britain was staying there because of “the left." , PERTH GETS ITS DUE! When the "Aussie" ex-servicemen were here the other day one Wanganui “Kiwi," who still retains hectic, if vivid, memories of the Westralian capital, sought out an "Aussie" from there to sort of "make amends," as it were, for what happened in Pertli when the “Kiwis” were on their way to Egypt. Least said about that, perhaps, the better; but, like true “Aussies,' the pcop.e of Perth bear no illwill, as the Wanganui “Kiwi" fmuid on meeting a man from Perth here In the city the other day. And the Wanganui man gave the man from Parth a Wanganui rosebush to plant In the famous Rose Street of the Westralian capital. Roses will bloom in Perth to some purpose now, we presume. THE “MAYOR" OF JERUSALEM We notice that that creat and august body. The United Nations Organisation. has decided to appoint a “Mayor" of Jerusalem. His first lesson, we presume, wi.l be to learn in Jewish and Arabic that oft-repeat-ed phrase, "Fellow citizens!" We have a feeling, however, that no further lesson will be necessary, because any “Mayor" of such a place as Jerusalem will not be permitted to sav more than just that, “Fellow citizens" -bang -and that will be the end of that! British soldiers murdered in cold blood, old men bumped off, looting, bloodshed and rape, and they appoint, of all things, a "Mayor." Poor, unfortunate bloke.
