OBITUARY
MR CHARLTON PEARCE. The death occurred yesterday of Mr. Charlton Pearce, J.P., a former chairman of the now defunct Gonville Town Board. He was aged 72. Mr. Pearce was born in England and settled in Taranaki when he came to New Zealand. He came to the Wanganui district, farmed near Kohi, Waverley, and was then connected with several businesses in the city before his retirement about eight years ago. For some years he was chief clerk at the Castlecliff Freezing Company for a period secretary of the Wanganui Engineering Works, Ltd., and for about 12 years, a director. He operated a small store at Aramoho and later operated as a real estate agent. Mr. Pearce had had long association with Masonic lodges in Wanganui and was the last chairman of the Gonviile Town Board before the suburb merged with the city. Mr Pearce is survived by his widow and one daughter, Mrs. P. R. Sykes, Durie Hill. There are six brothers, five of them resident in the United Kingdom and one in Australia.
The funeral service will be held at the Wanganui crematorium today.
