Incongruous. A some what incongruous effect was produced by a radio station one night recently. Following a broadcast appeal by several speakers to power consumers to make every economy in order to avoid further cuts, an announcer gave the time, adding: “You may now turn on your water heaters.”

Wintry Weather. Wanganui and district, for the past two days, has experienced heavy rain showers. Creeks and rivers along the coastal belt have risen slightly above normal. Reports from Taihape and Ohakune state that heavy rain fell over their respective districts, and rivers and creeks are in a flooded condition. So far no serious road blockages have been reported. The weather improved late yesterday afternoon.
